…and now I’m a member of the class action suit. I took the BarBri California course at their ‘live’ location in West Los Angeles.
Is BarBri a great resource? It is a necessary resource?
I tend to oppose the first query, and support the second. The teaching at BarBri is decent; the essay submission process sucks, as does their grading; but you have to acknowledge that if they teach something wrong, most bar takers (and passers) will get it wrong, too, so that’s okay.
In my case, in preparing for the bar examination in February 2006 (which I passed), I gave up on attending the live lectures. In my case, I found it far more valuable to check out and play the VCR tapes of the lectures in their upstairs playback room (they have headsets at each TV which they claim…wrongly…are sanitized each night).
By watching the tapes, and having complete control over the playback, when I zoned out (as we all do from time to time), I could snap out of it, rewind the tape a few minutes, and fill in what I missed.
Will my approach work for you? No. Only your approach will work for you. The trick is finding the approach that works for you. I just know that for me.

PS: There is NO rule in Brown’s Case. (If you take BarBri, you’ll know what I’m talking about!). jlk
